4th Of July

Posted By Happy Homemaker UK

My favorite holiday of the year is
the 4th Of July

No longer a celebration of gaining independence from England
(parts of the US belonged to France, Spain and Russia as well)
this hot summer bank holiday is welcomed by all

People decked out in red, white, and blue
this is the most patriotic American holiday

It is a time to get together with friends and family around the barbecue
eating hot dogs, hamburgers, potato chips, potato salad,
coleslaw, watermelon, and popsicles
Many will go to a pool, lake, or ocean to celebrate and stay cool

Most towns hold a 4th Of July parade during the day
which may feature local children on decorated tricycles and local soldiers

The warm night ends with fireworks often provided by the local town
(fire bans make fireworks illegal in some states due to risk of wildfires)

It also marks the middle of summer,
as most children have been out of school since early June
and will return again in August

Happy 4th of July!

Hi Laura!
Yes, the neighborhood workers have already placed the flags in every neighborhood yard! Hooray for the flag!

Happy 4th to you from Washington State! Most years I love to head back to my VERY small hometown in Oregon for a parade followed by all kinds of fun stuff in the city park including logging shows and competitions (only in Oregon, ha!) and then an impressive fireworks display at dusk. Nobody does it up better than Clatskanie and its 2000 residents. :) This is my first comment but I've been reading for a while. Thanks for your awesome blog!

Hi Laura, Happy 4th to you too! How will you be celebrating with your family? Too bad for all this dreadful rain! We plan to have a bbq with a group of American friends from church, but looks like we are going to be rained out :( My family in Utah are not allowed to shoot off fireworks, as there are already so many wildfires burning there at the moment.

Kia Ora, Nice to meet you and thank you so much for your lovely comment! I am a huge fan of National holidays, public holidays, days off on your birthday , mental health days... any day that means I don't have to get the bus to work really but the 4th of July is such an exuberant day off... Enjoy! jusx

Hope you had a wonderful celebration - it's just another day of the year way down here in Hobart...in the middle of winter....brrr! Even though we borrow so much culturally from the US the 4th of July celebration just doesn't register...which is a shame as it sounds idyllic! Rx
PS thanks so much for joining my blog, it is so nice to unexpectedly discover new connections!

I love, love, love the 4th of July holiday too. My son is a huge fan of the parades with a ton of firetrucks. Too bad ours didn't include any tractors or heavy machinery, too. He would have been stoked for that. Hope you had a great 4th.
