In Flight

Today our family’s flight path takes a new turn
as we settle back in the US

The literal flight path will take us over Greenland’s icy waters
and then deliver us to our summery new hometown
which I imagine will feel foreign for a while

On the calendar:
Driver’s license test
 4th of July rodeo
Summer camp
Visit family

Life is filled with transitions
and this is just another opportunity to practice our adaptability

See you on the other side
:)

Laura, I am wishing you and your family well as you transition to life back in the USA. Hoping for the perfect people to listen to your kids and ask them perceptive questions about their lives back in England, which will help them to process and adapt. As a Third Culture Kid myself, I know they will always be different in a way that is not clear to the people around them-- while tricky sometimes, it is such a gift. Also sending you good thoughts as you adapt! <3 <3

Did you come across the greeting "Best of British!" when you lived here? Well, Best of British to you!

Good luck Laura. I hope you continue blogging here to tell us about your experiences settling back into the US - and how you find things having lived over here.

I sense it was a very difficult good-bye, Laura. I hope your transition is calm and peaceful.

Where in the States are you moving to? How long did you live in England? I'm new to your blog so if you've addressed this before, I missed it. I was just looking at your previous post and it really made me miss England, although I never lived there, only visited. I have friends in Bristol and visited them back in 2000. How I'd love to go again! The scenery was so beautiful that it actually brought me to tears a couple of times.

welcome home. I took a similar photo last Saturday at the same airport. I hope your heart is happier than mine to be back here.

By now you will be back in the US and home again, so I hope that the flight and all parts of the journey went well for you, and that your return is a joyous one for all of your family. I hope too that the settling in and building of a new life back in America goes well. Let us know how you are getting on sometime perhaps? xx

Best of luck to you! We're in the middle of our transition right now - still in a hotel waiting for the keys to our new home. It does take some adjustment - I haven't quite wrapped my brain around the fact that we're not just here for a visit anymore - we live here! :)

American's will welcome you all'home' with open arms....Best of luck to you all with the transition - you will always have a special place in your hearts for jolly ol' England...I was born there, raised in the USA, returned there as a teenager and went to school there, and am back here now (Ohio) and love it here, but England will always have a very special place in my heart.....

I wish you so much peace as you adapt to American life again, I know that we are so like the British in some ways, but on the other side of the spectrum, we live in complete opposite ways. When I lived in England, coming home was so foreign, but it was so nice to be near family again. The "Goodbye" at Heathrow always makes me a bit sad!! I can't wait to hear about your new journey!

Hope all is going well as you settle into your new home. I've been away from the States for 19 years so would feel very strange to move back there. Have just spent a month in Colorado with my college boy but am now back in Kuwait. Take care and bet wishes, Tammy
